Kicks usually refer to sneakers or basketball shoes. In the 1990s there's a type of basketball shoes that had pumps in them. I forgot if its Nike or Reebok. One player in the NBA slam dunk competition was famous for pumping his shoes before the dunk.
During its popularity, there are some incidents where people was robbed/killed for their pump sneakers. |
